Heather O’Connor is a Special Education teacher celebrating the milestone of 20 years of experience. Most of her career has been with the San Diego Unified School District, but she has also taught in Kenya, Alaska, and Hawaii. One of her most memorable experiences was leading 30 eighth graders on a trip from Alaska to Australia with the People to People organization. Heather loves working with students on reading and writing, especially helping them find their voice and build confidence as writers. Outside the classroom, she enjoys spending time in the ocean and practicing Taekwondo. Her favorite direction to travel from San Diego is east, toward the high desert and the Pacific Crest Trail, where she can take in nature’s views beyond the city.
