Principal Mitch Booz

Principal Booz

Hello, East Village Middle College High School students, parents and staff. I consider myself very fortunate to be the principal of this unique school and enjoy our creative and collaborative environment. I have served as Principal of EVMCHS since 2016. This truly is a dream job. I grew up in the LA area but once I came to San Diego to attend San Diego State University in 1988 I never left.  I worked many different jobs to support myself though college before returning to school to get my teaching credential. I began my teaching career at Memorial Academy (now Logan Memorial Educational Complex) , worked at San Diego High School for 12 years, and taught all levels of secondary English. After serving as a Dean of Students at the School of Science and Technology, my first, official administrative assignment was at Pacific Beach Middle School as Vice Principal.  Outside of work, I enjoy the ocean, travelling and the outdoors. My wife Ana, my sons Dylan and Nick, our dog Maggie and I are fortunate to have extended family in town. We enjoy spending time with them just about every weekend.  Over the last few years, my wife and I have seen our sons have go off to college, completing our journey as parents raising children through a K-12 school system. We've learned a great deal, especially in the area of dual enrollment and college access.  This is what motivates me when I consider my position as Principal at EVMCHS: the opportunity to help students realize their potential, expand their world and access programming that gives them an advantage.
